Migraines Commonly Present With Bipolar Disorder

A new paper in Headache indicates that migraine and bipolar disorder (BD) are linked. The authors analyzed data from The Canadian Community Health Survey—Mental Health and Well-Being, which included 36,984 respondents. 10.3% of the general population suffer from migraines as opposed to 24.8% of those with BD. The survey indicated that comorbid migraine and BD are more prevalent in females than males, and, further, that, compared to males with just BD, males who suffer from both are more likely to live in a low income household, are more commonly affected by comorbid anxiety disorders, and have an earlier age of bipolar onset.
