OCD and QOL

A new study in BMC Psychiatry confirms that OCD has a major negative impact on quality of life. Researchers assessed 64 OCD outpatients with the SF-36 self-administerd global QOL perception scale, as well as the Y-BOCS and Hamilton depression scale. They found that the severity of OCD was strongly correlated with all SF-36 subscales and high scores in the Hamilton scale. They further found that, while obsession subscales were correlated with all SF-36 subscales, compulsion subscales were only correlated with mental health, vitality, emotional role, and social functioning. QOL in the study population was significantly different than QOL in the general population. http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-244X/6/20/abstract
