Multicomponent Intervention Promising for Bipolar Patients
New research published in Archives of General Psychiatry demonstrates
that multicomponent intervention significantly reduces mania in patients with bipolar disorder. 441 participants were
assigned to either regular continued care or a 2-year systematic intervention program comprising monthly monitoring of
mood and medication adherence via telephone, group psychoeducation, facilitation of follow-up care, and crisis intervention
and outreach as needed. Those in the multicomponent intervention group had lower levels of mania symptoms as well as less
time with mania symptoms. However, there was no significant difference between cohorts apropos depressive symptoms and
outcomes. http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/63/5/500
