Binge Eating & Depression: Predictors and Instigations

A recent longitudinal study, published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, tested the temporal relations between dietary restraint, depressive symptoms, and binge eating in a sample of Dutch females (N=143) with a mean age of 19.6 years. Researchers found that dietary restraint did not predict future binge eating, nor did binge eating predict future dietary restraint. Depressive symptoms did predict future increases in binge eating, but binge eating did not predict depressive symptoms. http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/abstract/112773645/ABSTRACT
