Trading Plates for Pillows: Sertraline
A study just published in the American Journal of Psychiatry indicates that sertraline
is efficacious for the treatment of night eating syndrome. Outpatients were assigned to receive sertraline or placebo
for 8 weeks. 71% of the sertraline group demonstrated significant improvement in primary outcome measures, and there were
also notable improvements in night-eating symptoms, quality of life, frequency of nocturnal ingestion, waking, and calories
ingested following the evening meal. In addition, overweight probands in the sertraline group lost significantly more weight
than those in the placebo group. Sertraline was well-tolerated by the study group. http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/content/abstract/163/5/893
