GAD-7: Finally a Short Assessment Tool for GAD?
Traditionally, GAD has resisted diagnosis via short clinical scales. A
newly published study, however, indicates that the GAD-7, a 7-item anxiety measure, is both reliable and valid in diagnosing
GAD. 2,740 patients completed the GAD-7; their results were then compared with diagnoses by independent clinicians, functional
status measures, health care use, and disability days. 89% of patients with GAD scored ≥10 on the GAD-7, while 82% of
patients without the disorder scored <10. This
study appeared in the Archives of Internal Medicine. http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/166/10/1092
